NPP-led Balapitiya Pradeshiya Sabha budget defeated by one vote
– The inaugural budget of the Balapitiya Pradeshiya Sabha, controlled by the National People’s Power (NPP), was defeated at a council meeting held today.
The budget was rejected by a narrow margin, with 17 councilors voting against it and 16 voting in favour.The meeting was chaired by Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman Anuruddha Mahaweli. The Balapitiya Pradeshiya Sabha consists of 34 members, including 16 from the NPP and 18 representing other political parties.Mahaweli, who represents the NPP, was elected as Chairman earlier by drawing lots, following an equal split in representation.
