AS FLOW RISES SPILL GATES OPENED AT TABBOWA, INGINIMITIYA, MI OYA

Spill gates opened at Tabbowa, Inginimitiya; Mi Oya flow rises


Colombo, May 14 (Daily Mirror) – The Irrigation Department has issued a spill discharge notice for the Tabbowa and Inginimitiya reservoirs today (14), with a total of 9,400 cubic feet per second (cusec) being released into the Mi Oya basin.

The Director of Irrigation (Water Management) said that at the Tabbowa Reservoir, spill gates were opened at 7.30 p.m. today with all eight radial gates in operation. Of these, four gates have been opened by 3 feet and four gates by 2 feet. The resulting spill discharge from Tabbowa is around 4,400 cusec into the Mi Oya.

Meanwhile, at the Inginimitiya Reservoir, two spill gates were opened at 7.00 p.m., with two gates opened by 3 feet and another two by 2 feet. The discharge from the reservoir stands at approximately 5,000 cusec into the Mi Oya.

Authorities have warned that water levels along the Mi Oya may fluctuate and have urged residents living downstream of the Inginimitiya and Tabbowa reservoirs to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions.
