Water reserves depleting; fuel required soon to generate power
Water reserves are gradually decreasing due to insufficient rainfalls experienced in the areas where hydroelectric power plants are situated, the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) said.
Accordingly, the water reserve which was at 85% has now dropped to 80%.
The engineers said that nearly 80% of the electricity production was fulfilled with hydropower due to the sufficient rainfalls experienced in the last few weeks. The engineers pointed out that it is important to provide fuel in adequate amounts to generate power as soon as possible because it is vital to preserve the existing water reserves.
