Earnings optimism lifts CSE as ASPI gains over 111 points

The Colombo Stock Exchange closed on a strong positive note on 29th May 2026, supported by renewed investor confidence following the latest round of corporate earnings releases. Improved earnings performance across several listed companies encouraged buying interest, helping the market sustain upward momentum throughout the session despite mixed movements in selected heavyweight counters.
Investor participation strengthened during the day, with both turnover and share volume levels improving significantly. The market witnessed a healthy recovery, with the ASPI advancing by 111.57 points (+0.50%) to close at 22,310.80, while the S&P SL20 gained 27.81 points (+0.45%) to settle at 6,159.15.The Diversified Financials sector emerged as the dominant contributor to overall market turnover, recording LKR 3.89 Bn with 429.84 Mn shares traded. HNBF.N led sector activity, generating an impressive LKR 3.68 Bn in turnover alongside 416.40 Mn shares traded, making it the most actively traded counter of the session.
Total market turnover stood at LKR 7.38 Bn, while overall share volume reached 515.98 Mn shares, reflecting heightened market activity. Crossings accounted for LKR 4.78 Bn, representing 64.83% of total turnover. The largest crossing was recorded in HNBF.N, totaling LKR 3.52 Bn with 400.00 Mn shares traded, contributing nearly half of the day’s overall market turnover.Market breadth remained firmly positive, with 169 gainers against 90 decliners, indicating broad-based buying interest across multiple sectors.
Positive contributions to the ASPI were led by COMB.N (+14.81 points), followed by DIAL.N, MELS.N, AEL.N, and HHL.N. On the downside, HNB.N (-12.67 points) emerged as the main drag on the index, while SAMP.N, WATA.N, WIND.N, and LIOC.N also exerted downward pressure.
Among notable trades, HNBF.N recorded a significant market movement, posting LKR 3.68 Bn in turnover with 416.40 Mn shares traded, while the counter appreciated by 7.61% during the session, reflecting strong investor demand and heightened participation in the financial sector.
