A tense situation was reported at the Colombo Divisional Secretariat today after a large crowd became agitated over delays in obtaining copies of birth certificates.According to eyewitnesses, around 100 people had gathered at the Divisional Secretariat, while only one counter was operating for the issuance of birth certificate copies.The crowd reportedly became increasingly frustrated as several other counters remained closed, resulting in long queues and delays.

The situation reportedly worsened after security personnel informed those waiting that they would not be required to leave for lunch, according to eyewitnesses.A brawl subsequently broke out among some members of the public, causing further tension at the premises.Police arrived at the scene and brought the situation under control. Eyewitnesses said the available service counters were insufficient to handle the large number of people seeking services, with several counters reportedly remaining closed.
