SPIRITUAL HEALER DEEGODA KUMARA NUDGES ON DESPITE FAKE ALLEGATIONS
I read with tremendous interest a fabricated article captioned “Prominent Bhikkus criticize “Healer” Deegoda Kumara in a Sunday edition of a state newspaper of 15th September 2018 on the healing program held at Horowpothana, Ruwanwella Maha Vidyalaya. Having followed the healing work of spiritual healer Deegoda Kumara in his you tube channel and watched this particular program uninterruptedly ‘live’ from the beginning ,which commenced at 2 p.m on the previous Saturday afternoon as usually he had done on previous successful healing programs in Welimada,Nuwara Eliya, Amparai, Panadura etc. Usually there is no such advertising done, but by word of mouth this information spreads more particularly among the destitute rural folks. However also people in higher walks of life and from overseas countries mostly Sri Lankas do patronize. There were more than 35,000 people in attendance at this specific healing program.
It was added that the particular healing service as described by the author of the humiliating article was conducted by the ‘SUPPOSED’ Spiritual Healer’ Deegoda Kumara. How dare he added this as he is now a well-accepted spiritual healer for over seven years having healed about 900,000 patients well known by many Sri Lankans here and abroad. In appreciation of this several Sri Lankans had donated modern equipment to even telecast live via his you tube channel by which those Sri Lankan’s domiciled overseas could get healed by following his ‘meditation’ process.
It is a fact that all who attended this programs were exposed to the elements, like in his other healing programs held in Welimada, Panadura , Ampara, Matara and temples under comparable conditions. According to the author of the article it was” inevitably the heat and other severe conditions led to the deaths of three attendees after their illnesses were aggravated, leaving another 13 in a serious condition”. These are all fabricated stories. One media personnel had spread this planned misrepresentation to sling mud at the Dewi Suwa Sewa for apparent reasons for the benefit of affected commercial ranges.
An eyewitness Anura Hegoda a lawyer who is an expatriate domiciled in UK for 35 years explained the sequence of events that had taken place on Sunday afternoon as an eyewitness. He had travelled with his family to Sri Lanka having heard of this spiritual healing as he too had a family member to be cured. On the Dewi Suwa Sewa you tube channel he explained clearly the sequence of events that took place where he categorically denied such deaths. Of course, some may have been admitted to hospital to treat dehydration.
One other participant was also furious as to how both the television media and the print had highlighted a false evidence of unscrupulous elements. His version also could be heard via you tube of Dewi Suwa Sewa. In the ITN news in the same evening it was prominently carried the news about three deaths and eighteen hospitalized at Horowpothana. In this context he said he has doubt about ITN’s sureness .In the following day newspapers it had been highlighted in the main caption “ Thidenek Maruta”.Another newspaper had emphasized on headlines as “ Thidenek wetee merai”.These he had heard and seen in the “Paththere Vistare on SLRC the following morning. The same person was critical of the Police media spokesman Ruwan Gunasekera who also had been in the same stance. The person was furious on him. Holding such a responsible position has only followed a rumor of a dodgy element. The person went on to say with this counterfeit information one would think all what he had conveyed earlier occasions may also be suspicious. He also stressed this is critical of a responsible Police media spokesman who draws his salary from people’s taxes.
It was assured in the news bulletins that investigations would be conducted into the deaths. But so far nothing has been revealed. According to the author, after the incident Deegoda Kumara has only propelled him into the limelight but also earned him a widespread criticism. But according to Deegoda Kumara speaking on this incident denies he has lost any drive and would attend to his healing service in a stronger manner.
The facts expressed in his you tube channel Dewi Suwa Sewa are spot on .His claims in a video that “a girl born with only one kidney gained the other through his blessings, within a week while a child whose testicles had not descended was also cured through his powers” are factual. Yes he could restore sight to the blind, make the deaf hear, make cripples walk, destroy cancer cells and cure numerous other illnesses through the power of the Lord Buddha and the Universe.
Prominent bhikkhus criticise ‘healer’ Deegoda Kumara | Sunday Observer Yes Deegoda Kumara’s healing services are held free of charge often involving of several fundamentals. He provides free meal and refreshments to all present. Attendees are routinely led through the “Maithree Bawana” meditation are requested to pursue the healing of others. Yes true he had criticized the government health services claiming he was doing their work and saved millions of rupees that would have been spent on the patients. With the so called recent deaths, however, led to his elevated tales being scrutinized” is incorrect which Deegoda Kumara totally denies ,determined to become more robust against these fictitious jealous elements .“A bus driver in the parking lot was cured of back pain even though he was not attending the service” is also true which he had once told the attendees.
Yes proceeding even further while conducting his healing services, Deegoda Kumara appears to mention the names of prominent Bhikkus in the country to draw the trust of the crowd, which he does not need. It is true that at a recent service, he had told his followers that the Mahanayaka of the Malwatta chapter were attending the service while also claiming the Mahanayaka of the Amarapura Chapter Ven. Kotugoda Dhammavasa Thera was healed by him which are facts. Deegoda Kumara had cured Ven.Bandarawela Amithananda Thera of his ailments which was not possible by specialists, which the thera himself had self-confessed via a video .The writer wish to reiterate that what Deegoda Kumara does to the aspiring patients in curing patients is definitely not a fraudulent activity but a blessing in disguise.
The writer is furious that this spiritual healing is not at all a debate as added by the Chief Incumbent of the Mirisawatiya Vihara, Rev. Eethalayawatunawewe Gnanathilake Thera , that despite the government spending a vast amount of money to create a doctor, the people instead of trusting this doctor go in search of these healers. They go as they trust this curing process which cannot be classified as myths. It has been proved that Deegoda Kumara has healed patients, the doctors had failed to heal. It is rather surprising as an erudite monk Rev. Prof. Induragare Dhammaratana Thera had also cast doubts on Deegoda Kumara’s claims having said Sri Lankan’s have been taken for a ride. Deegoda Kumara has accepted any challenge from a Doctor at Sri Lanka Rationalist Association, so why not the authorities go ahead.
But responding to his critics, especially media reports surrounding his healing services and the incident, Deegoda Kumara claims someone powerful is funding this negative campaign against him. Deegoda Kumara in responding to his critics particularly media reports added he respects both Bhikkhus and Doctors who are criticizing him, however, the media is being deployed by money and power he had alleged. According to him, the ongoing biased media campaign against him could only shoot out for two reasons. “Either it is for power and money or they are afraid of me” he said.
Despite the criticisms and recent deaths, Deegoda Kumara has sworn to continue his healing services. He has come on this journey successfully and we will continue despite the obstacles. His healing service was completed in a more robust manner in Kurunegala, the one at Panadura was successfully completed on the 14th December 2018.
