A prison officer who was critically injured during the violent clash at the Negombo Prison has succumbed while receiving treatment at the National Hospital of Sri Lanka (NHSL).

The Prisons Department confirmed that the latest fatality has raised the death toll from the Negombo Prison violence to 28.

According to the Ministry of Health, 12 injured persons remain in intensive care units (ICUs) while receiving treatment at the NHSL.
