Medical reports reveal PTSD, depression, anxiety in detained Suresh Salley

– Retired Major General Suresh Salley, who is currently being detained and questioned by the Criminal Investigation Department under the provisions of the Prevention of Terrorism Act, is suffering from depression, anxiety and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), his counsel informed Colombo Fort Magistrate Pasan Amarasena today.
President’s Counsel Shavindra Fernando stated before Colombo Fort Magistrate Pasan Amarasena that these conditions had been confirmed through medical reports. Counsel further submitted that, due to his mental condition, his client has developed suicidal tendencies and requires urgent attention.
President’s Counsel also requested the court to direct that his client, who is presently being held under detention orders, be placed in an environment suitable for receiving psychiatric treatment and care.As the complainant party was not represented in court today, the Magistrate considered the matter to be of an urgent nature and ordered that the case be called again tomorrow at 2.00 p.m.Appearing for the suspect, counsel informed court that the prosecution had been notified in advance that a motion would be filed and submissions made today regarding the matter.The Magistrate subsequently directed that notice be issued to the complainant party and ordered that they be present when the matter is taken up tomorrow.
