Fishing, naval communities warned of developing low-pressure system in Bay of Bengal

 – Naval and fishing communities have been warned against venturing into specified deep-sea areas in the Bay of Bengal as a low-pressure area is likely to form tomorrow (23), the Department of Meteorology said.In an advisory issued at 5.00 p.m. today (22), the department’s Natural Hazards Early Warning Centre said the system was likely to form over the Southeast and adjoining East-central Bay of Bengal before moving west-northwestwards and intensifying further.Accordingly, naval and fishing communities have been advised not to venture into deep-sea areas bounded by 10°N–20°N and 80°E–95°E. Those already operating in the affected sea areas have been urged to move to safe locations. The department’s assessment of the probability of cyclogenesis, or the formation of a depression, indicates a nil probability during the next 24 hours and the 24–48-hour period.

The probability is rated moderate for the 48–72-hour period and high for the 72–96-hour period.

The public, as well as naval and fishing communities, have been urged to remain attentive to future forecasts and bulletins issued by the Department of Meteorology regarding the developing system.
