Children get opportunity to name animals!
It has been decided to grant an opportunity to young children to name five newborn animals at the Dehiwala Zoo, the Director of the National Zoological Gardens Sharmila Rajapaksa said.
This year, the zoo has named five animals, including a baby hippopotamus, two baby monkeys, an Arabian oryx and a donkey.
The hippopotamus cub was born on September 9 this year, one of the two monkeys on November 25 and the other on November 29.
The Arabian Oryx was born on November 19th and the foal was born on November 05th.
The proposed name of the animals can be sent as an SMS or WhatsApp to 0706988488 stating the name, age, school and address of the applicant or on http: //nationalzoo.gov.lk/.
Children under the age of 18 are eligible to name the five animals that were born during the last three months.
The Director also requested that a suitable name be suggested and sent out before December 20, as arrangements have been made to name the five animals on Christmas day.
