Chilaw Hospital flood damage crosses Rs. 1.2 Bn
Health and Mass Media Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa said that damages caused by the recent flooding at the Chilaw General Hospital exceed Rs. 1,200 million.
The Minister made the remarks during an inspection visit to the hospital yesterday (12), noting that a similar amount would be required to fully restore normal treatment services.During the visit, Dr. Jayatissa also inspected the new ward complex currently under construction and said it is expected to be completed by November next year. He added that construction of the Emergency Accident and Treatment Unit is likely to be completed within about two years.
The Minister said steps would be taken to accelerate construction work and to rebuild the hospital to a standard higher than its previous condition.The Chilaw General Hospital, located on a 7.5-acre site in the centre of Chilaw town, is the main government hospital in the Puttalam District. It has nearly 1,000 healthcare staff and an official bed capacity of more than 645.
