FLOOD DISASTER EFFECTED OVER FIVE THOUSAND-DISASTER MANAGEMENT CENTRE

Number affected by disaster exceeds 5,000

 

The Disaster Management Centre has announced that more than 5,000 people have been affected by the disaster situation impacting several districts across the island. According to the statement, 5,242 individuals belonging to 1,574 families have been affected so far.

The Disaster Management Centre further stated that 162 persons are currently being accommodated at five safe shelters.

The statement also noted that people in 65 Divisional Secretariat divisions across 14 districts have been affected due to the adverse weather conditions.In addition, 192 houses have sustained partial damage.Meanwhile, the Disaster Management Centre stated that two disaster-related deaths have also been reported.
