– Two foreign passengers have been arrested by Sri Lanka Customs after they were allegedly caught attempting to smuggle a large consignment of foreign-made cigarettes through the Green Channel at the arrival terminal of Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA).

Customs officials said the suspects, identified as two Chinese businessmen aged 28 and 48, arrived in Sri Lanka on SriLankan Airlines flight UL-319 from Kuala Lumpur at around 9.50 a.m. on May 27.

Upon inspection, officers discovered 251 cartons containing 50,200 cigarettes, reportedly worth Rs. 75.30 million, concealed in four suitcases carried by the passengers.

The suspects were taken into custody by airport customs officers, and further investigations are underway.
