Goods train successfully operates from China Bay to Seeduwa
A goods train operated successfully from China Bay to Seeduwa today, despite disruptions to rail services on the Eastern Line caused by Cyclone Ditwah, the Railways Department said.They said the railway services between Kalawewa and Moragollagama Railway Stations were suspended after the Kalawewa Bridge and Kantale Railway Stations were closed due to damage from the cyclone, which struck the island yesterday.
However, the Department confirmed that the freight train carrying goods was able to complete its journey without incident.The Department expects to resume passenger train services on the Eastern Line within the next two days. Meanwhile, repair work on the Batticaloa Railway Line between Mahawa and Polonnaruwa has been completed, while restoration work on the section between Polonnaruwa and Manampitiya is still underway.
