Grama Niladhari officers withdraw from Saturday duties
Grama Niladhari Officers have announced that they will withdraw from Saturday duties from today (15) until further notice, citing unresolved demands.
The decision follows a two-day trade union action on 10 and 11 August, during which officers reported sick and stayed away from work.Their demands include higher travel allowances, a degree as the minimum qualification for recruitment, implementation of allowances recommended by the Gammanpila Committee, and payment for work carried out on government holidays. The union said officers will also stop field duties on Saturdays and remain at their domain offices only on Tuesdays and Thursdays until further notice.
