Met Department warns of thunderstorms and strong lightning in several districts
– The Meteorological Department has issued a warning of a high likelihood of thunderstorms accompanied by intense lightning in parts of the Kalutara, Ratnapura, Galle, and Matara districts.According to the advisory, temporary strong winds are also expected during these thunderstorms, increasing the risk of weather-related hazards.
Officials urged the public to take all necessary precautions to minimize the dangers posed by lightning, particularly during periods of heavy rain and thunder activity.
The department advised residents in the affected areas to remain indoors during lightning strikes, avoid using wired electrical appliances, and stay clear of open fields and tall structures.
