CID to record statements from Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Saman Ekanayake
– Former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and former Presidential Secretary Saman Ekanayake are reportedly summoned to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) to record statements in connection with two separate investigations.
It was reported that statement to be recorded from Mr. Rajapaksa over a statement made by former Inspector General of Police Deshabandu Tennakoon regarding the failure to control the attack on ‘Aragalaya’ protestors at Galle Face Green. Meanwhile, Mr. Ekanayake has been directed to appear before the CID tomorrow to give a statement on allegations of misusing state funds during former President Ranil Wickremesinghe’s visit to the United Kingdom.
Meanwhile, Wickremesinghe’s media division released another set of documents, which it said were received by his lawyers from Wolverhampton University in the UK, aimed at countering allegations surrounding the trip.The University of Wolverhampton has confirmed the authenticity of the invitation in response to an email from Mr. Wickremesinghe’s lawyers, and the documents will be submitted to the CID.
