Pope donates €100,000 for welfare of Easter Sunday bomb victims
His Holiness Pope Francis has donated €100,000 to His Eminence Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith for the welfare of the Easter Sunday bomb victims, the ‘Mawbima’ newspaper reports, citing Father Jude Chrisantha, Archdiocesan Director of Mass Communications.
Fr. Jude Chrisantha has said that during the Cardinal’s visit to the Vatican last February, the Pope had inquired about the programmes done to take care of the victims. The donation (which is around Rs. 40 million) was then made to strengthen these programmes.
Accordingly, the victims are to be divided into 03 categories and a portion of this donation is to be given at the St. Sebastian’s church in Katuwapitiya tomorrow (13) and at the Kochchikade church on Sunday (14), Fr. Jude Chrisantha has added.
He said that more priority is being given to those who had died, who are still receiving medical treatment and who were disabled for life due to the bombings.
