PHIs bust distribution of flood-damaged rice
– Public Health Inspectors (PHIs) have uncovered an illegal racket involving the processing and distribution of flood-damaged rice deemed unfit for consumption in the Harispattuwa area of the Kandy District.
According to Pradeep Boralessa, President of the Public Health Inspectors’ Union, officers seized 1,000 kilograms of contaminated rice during the operation.
He said inspections and surveillance are continuing nationwide to detect similar fraudulent activities.Boralessa urged businesses to refrain from such practices and reminded consumers to remain cautious when purchasing rice, especially during this period. The PHIs’ union also requested the public to report any related information to their local Public Health Inspector or the 24-hour hotline of the Disaster Management Unit of the Ministry of Health and Mass Media via 1926.
