Sri Lanka Navy clears bridge blockages, continues Cyclone Relief operations
The Sri Lanka Navy has successfully cleared major bridge blockages caused by Cyclone Ditwah, restoring water flow and protecting key infrastructure, while continuing nationwide relief efforts.
Specialized Navy diving teams removed debris from the Yaka Palama (Devil’s Bridge) in Peradeniya by December 17 and from the Kalugamuwa Bridge in Nillamba by December 14, safeguarding rail and water supply systems.Meanwhile, the Navy’s humanitarian operations have rescued 1,378 people, relocated over 18,300 to safer areas, and restored essential services, including cleaning more than 1,000 drinking water wells, as relief work continues across affected regions.
