Over 300 mm of rainfall in Ududumbara; landslide red alert issued for eight Divisional Secretariat divisions
The Disaster Management Centre, citing data from the Department of Meteorology, stated in a notice issued at 6.00 p.m. today that more than 300 mm of rainfall has been recorded in the Ududumbara area of the Kandy District during the past 24 hours.Accordingly, 308 mm of rainfall has been recorded in the Ududumbara area of the Ududumbara Divisional Secretariat Division.In addition, rainfall of 234 mm has been recorded in the Poppitiya area, 221 mm in the Nugathenna area, and 218 mm in the Kaikawala area, all within the Ududumbara Divisional Secretariat Division.
The National Building Research Organization (NBRO) has warned that areas in Ududumbara showing early signs of landslides remain at risk, and has urged residents to avoid unnecessary travel and take steps to ensure their personal safety.
