Water levels stable in major rivers: Irrigation Department

– Water levels in all major rivers across the country remained at normal levels as of 6.00 p.m. today, according to the Irrigation Department’s latest hydrology report.However, the Kuda Ganga at Kalawellawa (Millakanda) remained at alert level, although water levels were reported to be falling. The river recorded a water level of 5.19 metres at 6.00 p.m., above the alert level of 5.00 metres.
The report showed several river basins receiving notable rainfall during the previous nine hours, with the highest rainfall of 20.8 mm recorded in the Maguru Ganga basin at Magura. Rathnapura in the Kalu Ganga basin recorded 15.1 mm, while Kithulgala and Thawalama recorded 14.2 mm and 14.5 mm respectively.Despite the rainfall, all other monitored rivers, including the Kelani, Kalu, Gin, Nilwala and Mahaweli rivers, remained within normal limits, the department said.
