D.V. Chanaka files lawsuit against radio station over false underworld links
– Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) Parliamentarian D.V. Chanaka has filed a lawsuit against a private radio station claiming that the station aired false statements linking his late uncle to underworld activities.In a legal action filed at the Colombo District Court (Case No. DMR 01083/25), Chanaka is seeking compensation of one billion rupees from the radio station for defamation and the spread of misinformation.
The lawsuit arises from a statement made during one of the radio station’s programs, in which it was alleged that Chanaka’s late uncle had connections with the underworld. Chanaka has described these allegations as false and damaging to both his and his family’s reputation.The court documents demand that the radio station issue a public correction to their earlier statement and pay the one billion rupees in damages.
Chanaka has also called for a public apology and for the radio station to take full responsibility for the alleged misleading broadcast.
