Sallay’s wife writes to the President!
Manori Salllay, the wife of former Director of the State Intelligence Service, retired Major General Suresh Sallay, has reportedly written to President Anura Kumara Dissanayake requesting that her husband be remanded in custody rather than being kept under the custody of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), in view of the serious heart condition he is suffering from.
She is reported to have sent the letter on the 20th.She has pointed out that any attempt to remove her husband from the medical environment at the National Hospital and return him to the custody of the CID could pose an immediate and serious threat to his life. The letter states that, after he commenced a hunger strike in protest against his continued detention and the conditions of his imprisonment, her husband was transferred to the Sri Lanka National Hospital on June 7, 2026, for medical treatment. Since then, he has been receiving care and treatment under specialist doctors attached to the Cardiology Unit.
She has further stated in the letter that, due to the continued deterioration of his cardiac function and severe weakness, her husband had to undergo heart surgery, during which an artificial pacemaker was implanted in his heart.
