Katana MoH faces scrutiny as Avenra Garden hit by food poisoning claims
Two separate cases of suspected food poisoning have been reported last week at the well-known ‘Avenra Garden’ hotel in Negombo, the ‘Meepura’ website has reported.
The first incident had occurred on Dec. 04, when a group from the Negombo area had attended a function at the hotel.Several attendees later developed vomiting and related symptoms that night and in the following morning.Some had received treatment for food poisoning at Nawaloka Hospitals PLC, reports say.
The second incident was reported on Dec. 07, involving a group from Kiribathgoda.04 individuals had been reportedly admitted for inpatient treatment at the Base Hospital, Kiribathgoda, due to similar symptoms.The hospital has reportedly notified the Kelaniya MoH regarding the incident.However, concerns have been raised over the response of the Katana MoH Office, which holds jurisdiction over the location of the hotel.
According to ‘Meepura’, the Avenra Garden kitchen has long faced issues related to hygiene and operational standards.
