The Government has introduced a multi-purpose loan scheme to help Sri Lankan migrant workers make productive use of their overseas earnings for housing, education, business and other financial needs.The scheme, implemented through the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE), is available to Sri Lankans employed overseas who can provide proof of employment and evidence of remittances received through formal banking channels.Applicants are required to submit documents including their passport, employment agreement and records confirming the transfer of their overseas earnings through recognized banks.

Under the scheme, migrant workers can obtain loans to construct or purchase houses, establish or expand businesses, purchase vehicles and meet education-related expenses of their children.The initiative is aimed at encouraging migrant workers to invest their earnings in long-term assets and productive activities while improving their financial security and contributing to the country’s economy.
