“Kapila’s death will not obstruct airbus investigation”
Professor and President’s Counsel Prathibha Mahanamahewa says the sudden death of former SriLankan Airlines executive Kapila Chandrasena will not hinder the continuation of investigations into the Airbus deal.
He stated that if there are other suspects connected to the incident in addition to Kapila Chandrasena, there would be no obstacle to continuing the investigations. Mahanamahewa further noted that, apart from Chandrasena, his wife and an individual named Nimal Perera have also been named as suspects in the case, and as they are currently in Australia, steps could be taken to bring them back to Sri Lanka under extradition laws.
He added that provisions also exist to obtain Mutual Legal Assistance (MLA) through diplomatic channels for that purpose. He further stated that if they cannot be brought back through those measures, legal action could ultimately be instituted against them in Australia in connection with the incident.
