Census to be conducted in affected areas
– The Land Commissioner’s Department has focused its attention on conducting a census of lands affected by two recent minor storms, Commissioner General of Land, Chandana Ranaweera Arachchi said.He said that once the lands affected by landslides are secured, re-surveying activities will be carried out in the affected areas.
If a decision is taken to declare lands located in identified risk zones as protected areas, the Department is prepared to assess the value of lands held under grant permits and provide either compensation or alternative land, he added.The Commissioner General further said that some residents have settled on state lands without permission, and the Department is paying special attention to addressing this issue.In this regard, the Land Commissioner’s Department has already informed land offices in the affected districts to take necessary action, he said.
