Sri Lanka cricketer Dhanushka Gunathilaka has been freed from three charges but will be put on trial once again on a remaining charge of what police allege to be ‘forceful sexual intercourse’ according to international media reports.

Sydney police say that the remaining charge relates to Gunathilaka allegedly putting his hand around the victim’s neck and choking her for some 20 or 30 seconds during the sex act.

The next hearing is scheduled for July 13 in a Sydney courthouse.

Gunathilaka committed the alleged offences while the Sri Lanka team was taking part in the T20 World Cup in Australia in October-November last year.
