OVER DELAYS IN DIGITAL ID ROLLOUT QUESTIONED BY NAMAL

Namal questions government over delays in Sri Lanka’s Digital ID rollout

Claiming that the deadline for the implementation of Sri Lanka’s Digital ID has now passed, Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) MP Namal Rajapaksa said that the Government must tell the people clearly when the Digital ID actually would be delivered.

The MP said for nearly two years, the Government has announced successive timelines for the implementation of Sri Lanka’s Digital ID.”April 2026 was announced as a target. That deadline has now passed, and we are once again being told that the first Digital ID will be issued by the end of this year. How many more deadlines must the people wait through?,” the asked.

He said in a post on X that Digital transformation requires more than announcements and that it requires delivery, accountability and timelines that are honoured.”The Government must tell the people clearly: When will the Digital ID actually be delivered?, he asked.
