Sri Lanka loses hosting rights for inaugural 2027 Women’s Champions Trophy

– Sri Lanka has lost the hosting rights for the inaugural 2027 ICC Women’s Champions Trophy, with the International Cricket Council (ICC) deciding to move the tournament to another country amid the ongoing administrative uncertainty surrounding Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC).

The six-team Twenty20 International tournament was originally awarded to Sri Lanka under the previous SLC administration headed by Shammi Silva. However, the situation changed after a government-appointed Cricket Transition Committee (CTC) took over the administration of SLC. The ICC has maintained its position against government interference in the administration of member cricket boards and has called for a return to a fully elected and independent cricket administration.Prakash Schaffter, Secretary of the Cricket Transition Committee, confirmed that the ICC had formally informed the committee that the tournament would be moved out of Sri Lanka and hosted by another country. The inaugural Women’s Champions Trophy was scheduled to be held from February 14 to 28, 2027, with Australia, England, India, New Zealand, South Africa and the host nation expected to compete.
