Railway station phone lines restored after Rs.2.9 mn payment


– Public telephone lines at railway stations across the country, which were disconnected earlier today due to non-payment of bills, have now been restored after the outstanding payment was settled this evening, the Railways Department said.

The department said the disconnection had caused inconvenience to passengers and railway station staff at stations islandwide.Officials said a payment of Rs. 2.9 million was made this evening to restore the telephone connections.The Railways Department earlier confirmed that telephone lines at all railway stations had been disconnected due to unpaid bills.
