Pitigala Police telephone operator suspended

A police constable who served as the telephone operator at the Pitigala Police Station has been suspended with immediate effect over allegations of dereliction of duty, the Office of the Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of the Galle Division said.The Officer-in-Charge confirmed that the constable had falsely recorded that information from the suspect detention register had been entered into the A.M.I.S. data system, which is used to transmit such information to police stations across the country, on 26 June.
Following the OIC’s findings, the matter was reported to the Assistant Superintendent of Police.Accordingly, Assistant Superintendent of Police Dilrukshi Algewatta visited the station and ordered the constable’s suspension with effect from today (28).
