IMF gives positive response to Sri Lanka’s request
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has decided to prioritize Sri Lanka’s request for USD 200 million under the Rapid Financing Instrument (RFI) to help the country cope with the challenges arising from the destruction caused by Cyclone Ditwah. The IMF stated that the support offered under the Rapid Financing Instrument is an additional financial facility provided alongside the loan assistance granted to Sri Lanka under the Extended Fund Facility (EFF).
It has also been noted that an IMF team is scheduled to visit Sri Lanka in the first half of 2026 to resume discussions on completing the fifth review of the Extended Fund Facility.IMF’s Resident Representative for Sri Lanka, Mr. Evan Papageorgiou, stated last Friday that Sri Lanka had made an urgent request for approximately USD 200 million to help stabilise the country following the devastation caused by Cyclone Ditwah and that the IMF is currently reviewing this request.
