The chief custodian (Kapu Mahattaya) of the Maha Kadawara Dewalaya in Kalawewa has been arrested by Kawarakkulama Police for possession of Crystal Methamphetamine (“ICE”), police said.He was arrested while staying at a hotel near the Kumbichchan Kulama Tank in Anuradhapura.Police further stated that Rs. 2,443,480 in cash and 4.17 g of ICE were recovered from his possession at the time of arrest.Investigations have also revealed that the suspect had been travelling in a car that had crashed into an electricity pole at Unagaswewa Junction on June 14, after which the driver fled the scene, abandoning the vehicle.Following further investigations, police arrested the 48-year-old chief custodian from Vijithapura and a 31-year-old driver while they were allegedly hiding at a hotel near the Kumbichchan Kulama Tank.Both suspects have been remanded until June 30 after being produced before the court, police added.
