– Showers or thundershowers are expected at several places in the sea areas off the coast stretching from Puttalam to Hambantota via Colombo and Galle during the next 24 hours, according to the latest weather forecast issued at 2.00 p.m. today (23).

The forecast said that a few showers or thundershowers may also occur in other sea areas around the island during the evening or night.Southwesterly winds are expected with speeds ranging between 30–40 kmph. Wind speeds may increase up to 50–60 kmph at times in sea areas extending from Kankasanthurai to Pottuvil via Puttalam, Colombo, Galle and Hambantota, while other sea areas may experience winds reaching up to 50 kmph.

Authorities warned that sea areas from Kankasanthurai to Pottuvil via Puttalam, Colombo, Galle and Hambantota will be rough at times, while other surrounding sea areas are expected to be fairly rough.Wave heights may increase to around 2.0–3.0 metres in sea areas extending from Puttalam to Pottuvil via Colombo, Galle and Hambantota.The advisory further warned that temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough sea conditions can be expected during thundershowers.
