PUBLIC ADVISED TO USE DRINKING WATER SPARINGLY

Drinking water supply drops by 9%

The National Water Supply and Drainage Board (NWSDB) has urged the public to use water sparingly, raising concerns pertaining to the supply of purified drinking water.

Accordingly, the NWSDB stated that the overall daily purified drinking water supply capacity has decreased by 9%.

Therefore, the NWSDB has advised public to use water sparingly.Meanwhile, it has been announced that the water supply to Kurunegala city will have to be limited from tomorrow (18) until further notice.

e-gate & CCTV camera control room considered for BIA (Pics)

The Minister of Public Security – Tiran Alles has focused on the establishment of new e-gate counters and a CCTV camera control room at the Bandaranaike International Airport in Katunayake.

The observations were made while the Minister made an observation tour to the BIA today (17).

The minister also explained that a CCTV camera system will be able to analyze data using latest software technology.

Inspecting immigration counters set up at the passenger arrival and departure terminals, the Minister also discussed a ground plan to provide an efficient and effective service to air passengers as well as to provide immigration services in par with conditions at other international airports.

The Chairman of the Airport & Aviation Services Sri Lanka Ltd. – Major General (Retd.) G.A. Chandrasiri, Public Security Ministry Secretary – Mr. Viani Gunathilaka, Immigration Department Controller General – Mr. Harsha Ilukpitiya and airport officials joined this observation tour.

2 teens drown after falling into water hole in Vavuniya

Two students have reportedly drowned after falling into a water hole in the vicinity of the Vavuniya University Sports Ground today (Aug 17).

The incident had occurred after a zonal “Elle” match which was held in the Vavuniya University Sports Ground.

Police say that the two deceased students were aged 14 and 15 years.

A search had commenced after it was discovered that the students were missing. Their bodies were found in the water hole and were recovered by the police,

The bodies are currently placed at the Vavuniya Hospital.

Poovarasankulam Police is conducting further investigations regarding the incident.

Fire at chemical storage facility in Homagama

A fire has broken out in a chemical storage facility in the Homagama Industrial Zone.

According to the Kotte Fire Brigade, 4 fire trucks deployed to douse the fire.

The Army spokesman has also said that the Army is assisting firefighters at the site.
