Railing over railway issues
Railway employees, led by the Public Service Trade Union Centre, staged a protest yesterday (16) outside the Railways Department Headquarters over administrative and service-related issues. Six train services were reportedly set to be cancelled ahead of today’s (17) railway strike, although the Railways Department had not officially confirmed the cancellations. Among the services reportedly affected were the 7 p.m. Colombo Fort–Batticaloa train, 8 p.m. Colombo Fort–Kankesanthurai train and the 9.30 p.m. night mail to Batticaloa.
