Former Minister Mahinda Samarasinghe has officially informed the government of his decision to resign from his post as Sri Lanka’s Ambassador to the United States and Mexico, the “Sunday Divaina” newspaper reported.
His current term in office was scheduled to conclude at the end of July this year.Reports further stated that the government is considering obtaining his services in a political capacity in the future.Samarasinghe, who spent several decades in Sri Lankan politics, resigned from Parliament in 2021 to join the foreign service.
His role during the country’s recent economic crisis and the period that followed has also been regarded as significant.
