The Administrative Appeals Tribunal (AAT) today (May 13) ordered the National Police Commission (NPC) to promote SSP Shani Abeysekara to the rank of Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) with effect from August 25, 2020.The order was issued following the conclusion of an inquiry into an appeal filed by Abeysekara several years ago.

According to the ruling, the NPC has been directed to grant the promotion retrospectively from the specified date.SSP Shani Abeysekara joined the Sri Lanka Police as a Sub-Inspector on February 10, 1986. During his career, he served in several ranks including Inspector, Chief Inspector, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Superintendent of Police (SP), and Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP).
