It is reported that the Transformation Committee appointed by Minister of Sports Sunil Kumara Gamage has drawn attention to the fact that Sri Lanka Cricket spent more than Rs. 680 million solely on various legal matters during the three-year period from 2023 to 2025.It is further stated that this substantial expenditure by the previous administration was incurred on legal fees for cases filed by and against the cricket board, as well as on compensation paid in relation to cases it had lost.

However, Sri Lanka Cricket is said to have spent the larger share of these funds on legal fees associated with instituting legal action against opposing parties.Reports indicate that most of the approximately Rs. 680 million was paid to a selected group of lawyers.

The cases instituted by the cricket board reportedly include actions against media institutions such as Lake House, Times and Upali, along with their journalists, as well as cases filed against former Sports Ministers, Members of Parliament and social activists.Meanwhile, it is learnt that the current Transformation Committee has intervened to facilitate settlements and the withdrawal of 18 of these cases.According to internal cricket sources, the lawyers who have appeared most frequently in these matters include Romesh de Silva, Kuvera de Zoysa, Charaka Jayaratne, M. J. S. Fonseka, Ronald C. Perera and Jeevantha Lakmal.

Meanwhile, it is also noteworthy that Asela Rekawa, who served as legal adviser to Sri Lanka Cricket, is reported to have received a substantial sum for legal work.
