Probe ordered into alleged police harassment of Jackson Anthony’s son-in-law
Acting IGP Priyantha Weerasuriya has directed a probe into claims of mistreatment by the Athurugiriya Police during the arrest of Kasun Mahendra Heenatigala, son-in-law of the late Jackson Anthony.
Heenatigala alleges he was detained on Friday for not carrying his National Identity Card and faced inhumane treatment and verbal abuse. His wife, Madhavee Anthony, was also allegedly subjected to verbal abuse at the police station.
Police Spokesman SSP Manathunga said the investigation would be conducted to determine if the officers involved had acted in violation of the law, and if so, action would be taken against them.
