TO AVOID SHARING DETAILS OF DISASTER AFFECTED CHILDREN URGED BY MINISTRY

Ministry urges public not to share details of disaster-affected children

– The Ministry of Child and Women Affairs has urged the public and media institutions to refrain from sharing photographs, video footage, or personal details of children affected by the prevailing disaster situation through social media or mainstream media platforms. The Ministry warned that sharing such information can seriously compromise the identity and privacy of affected children and may lead to their details and images falling into the hands of traffickers and other criminal elements who misuse them for illegal purposes. It further stated that legal action will be taken against individuals who use or disseminate such information for acts including child exploitation and trafficking.

The Ministry requested the public to report any information regarding disaster-affected children, post-disaster child trafficking incidents, or individuals involved in such activities to the 1929 Child Helpline Service or to the Child Rights Promotion Officer or Child Protection Officer attached to the nearest Divisional Secretariat Office.
