Govt. moves to prepare Anuradhapura farmers for Maha season
President Anura Kumara Dissanayake instructed officials to support Anuradhapura farmers whose paddy lands were destroyed by floods to resume cultivation in the Maha season.
He called for coordinated action, rapid compensation and temporary irrigation through provisional repairs.At a meeting on 7 December, officials reported progress in restoring electricity, water supply and damaged infrastructure. The President ordered a report by Friday detailing affected farmers, damaged land and required funding, stressing that compensation must go only to eligible recipients.
He also directed authorities to expedite road repairs and ensure the Rs. 15,000 allowance for affected schoolchildren is distributed by 31 December.
