Eighteen months to rebuild damaged bridges
Essential Services Commissioner General Prabath Chandrakeerthi says the Road Development Authority has indicated that it will take around 18 months to permanently restore bridges on the road network that were destroyed. He said that due to the disaster situation caused by Cyclone “Ditwah”, 40 bridges under the purview of the Road Development Authority were damaged, of which 15 have already been temporarily repaired. He added that three of the damaged bridges require urgent reconstruction.
The Commissioner General further stated that inspections are also being carried out on roads under provincial councils and in upcountry areas and that repair work on those roads is currently underway
