TO TAMPER WITH DAMAGED COMMUNICATION LINES IS TABOO FOR PUBLIC

Public urged not to tamper with damaged communication lines

– Police said that Dialog Axiata has urged the public, through the Inspector General of Police, to exercise caution regarding telecommunication cables that have been exposed or damaged in several areas due to the ongoing adverse weather conditions.According to the company, essential communication cables including fiberoptic and copper lines have been damaged or exposed in public areas as a result of the severe disaster situation affecting many parts of the island. Some underground cables were also reportedly damaged during road repair work in areas hit by the disaster.

Police said this situation has significantly slowed efforts to restore communication services. The public is therefore warned not to damage, cut or tamper with any exposed cables or related infrastructure, as such actions are punishable by law.The Sri Lanka Police have asked anyone with information about individuals interfering with these lines to report to the nearest police station. The public are also encouraged to alert authorities if underground telecommunication cables are encountered during road reconstruction. Such cooperation will help ensure that restoration work is carried out safely and efficiently, police said.
