Cabinet approves two 50MW wind power projects in Mannar
– The Cabinet has approved the establishment of two new wind power plants each with a capacity of 50 megawatts in Mullikulum, Mannar, as part of the government’s push to generate 70% of Sri Lanka’s electricity from renewable energy by 2030.
The approval follows a decision made on 10 February 2025 to invite proposals from private-sector developers for the Mullikulum Wind Power Park, a 100MW project to be implemented under a Build–Own–Operate model with a 20-year monitoring period.
Proposals were called through an international competitive bidding process, resulting in seven submissions.
After evaluating the bids, and based on the recommendations of the Cabinet-appointed negotiation committee, the Cabinet has now endorsed the proposal of the Minister of Power to award the contracts.
The two 50MW wind power stations will be developed by:
Consortium of Vidullanka PLC and David Pieris Motor Company (Lanka) Ltd
WindForce PLC
