Silver Screen Awards, a felicitation ceremony held to appreciate veteran actors and actresses, singers, directors and crew connected to the local cinema industry in the 1950s was held at the BMICH recently. This event was held as an attempt to preserve the local cinema industry as well as look towards the wellbeing of those who have done yeoman service to the industry.
The concept of this awards ceremony was born in the mind of Sumith Bibile, a seasoned actor from the era. His daughter, Sanoja Bibile, put this idea into practice. The President of the Silver Screen Art Society is Sunil T Fernando. Sanoja Bibile is the Secretary. Padmasiri Kodikara, Mohamed Salim, Raj Ranasinghe, Anusha Damayanthi, Priyanatha Rathnayake, Manoja Ratnayake, Nuwangi Liyanage, Vinoja Nilanthi, Priyantha Mapa Wijesinghe, Jagath Galapatti, Lawyer Sahan Fernando, Vishwa Kodikara, Anura Ratnayake and Saman Priyankara Nammunige comprise the committee.
The event is organized by Haritha Parapura, an organization which looks into environmental conservation and social welfare, which functions under Amila Moremada.
