Showery weather to continue for next two days

The prevailing showery weather conditions across Sri Lanka are expected to continue over the next two days due to a low-pressure area located to the northeast of the island, the Meteorological Department said in its forecast issued at 4.00 p.m. today (13).

The system is expected to move away from Sri Lanka and gradually weaken within the next 48 hours. However, its influence will continue to trigger widespread rain across several provinces. Accordingly, showers or thundershowers are expected at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Southern, North-Western and Northern provinces, as well as in the Anuradhapura District.

The department further warned that heavy rainfall exceeding 100 mm may occur at some locations in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central and North-Western provinces, and in the Galle and Matara districts.Meanwhile, showers or thundershowers are likely in other parts of the island after 1.00 p.m.The public has been advised to take adequate precautions against possible impacts from strong winds and lightning associated with thundershowers.
