Missing yellow anaconda calf found at Dehiwala Zoo after 10 days
– The yellow anaconda calf that went missing from the Dehiwala National Zoo on December 6 has been found after a 10-day search, Deputy Director of the zoo Kasun Hemantha Samarasekara said.Speaking to the Daily Mirror, he said the calf was discovered during a search operation carried out last night (16), concealed beneath a drawer in a cupboard located a few metres away from the anaconda enclosure.
Zoo officials had conducted extensive daytime search operations since the disappearance, while night-time searches were launched three days ago, he added. The Deputy Director explained that the anaconda calf had escaped through a very small hole in its enclosure and had been hiding inside the cupboard drawer.
He noted that the calf is in good health, pointing out that members of the python family typically feed once a week or once every two weeks, and therefore the young anaconda did not face any feeding issues during the period it was missing.Samarasekara further said that the anaconda calf has now been placed under quarantine for observation.
